Living Our Faith

We emphasize and celebrate spiritual development alongside academic growth.

Mass

At the Lower Campus, students attend a weekly school Mass every Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark parish. Each week a different class participates in planning the Mass liturgy, performing the readings and petitions.

At the Upper Campus, students attend Mass every other Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. in the auditorium. Throughout the year there are special Masses, such as Holy Days of Obligation, the First Eucharist Mass where our second grade students join us at the Lord’s table for the first time, Catholic schools week Mass, Ash Wednesday Mass, graduation Masses, and more.

Kenosha area parish priests celebrate the Mass for us, but occasionally, we are blessed to have a visiting priest from a surrounding parish, or to have one of our Bishops celebrate the Mass. Parents, alumni, and friends of the school are always welcome to attend our school Masses.

Theology Classes

As a Catholic school, SJCA welcomes students of all faiths and respects the religious beliefs of all members of the diverse school community. The school believes that the spiritual development of its students gives meaning to their intellectual and physical endeavors.

Students at all grade levels attend Theology classes ranging from Bible studies to ethics and world religions studies.  Whether in the church, chapel, classroom, or on the playing field, building a moral and ethical foundation is an integral part of a St. Joseph Catholic Academy education.  Faculty, staff, alumni, and parents support students as they learn to lead lives of honor and commitment.

Knowing, Loving, and Serving God and Others

At SJCA, we believe that community service is a vital part of shaping tomorrow’s stewards.  Service projects bring the values that are taught in the classroom to life as students learn about and respond to the needs of others.  Our students, from preschool through high school, provide over 10,000 hours of service annually to the school parish, civic, and global organizations.

Mission Trip

Nicaragua Mission Trip

SJCA is excited to conduct its seventh mission trip to Nicaragua in May, 2018 where team members will stay in Chinendega, Nicaragua. The group will do heavy work as they continue building a school .  Our group will also travel to local school and offer classes/camps for the kids. The group will be able to close their time with the students in the afternoon with chapel. It will be a great opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Please view this beautiful video, made by Alec Gessert, SJCA Class of 2017 during his time in Nicaragua this past spring.

Retreats

An integral part of forming our faith lives.

Students at all grade levels, even as young as preschool, experience meaningful age-appropriate retreats led by priests, teachers, and the high school retreat team.

Unique to SJCA, our sophomore and senior classes participate in overnight retreats on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.  SJCA is one of only a handful of schools nationwide that host retreats on this campus.  During this holy time, the students deepen and strengthen their relationship with God and each other.  This one-of-a-kind experience allows students to take a breath, pray, reflect, and recognize the power of God in their lives.

The Freshman Retreat will be held on Friday, 1/5/18 at St. Anne Parish.

The overnight Sophomore Retreat will be held on 4/12/18 and 4/13/18 on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.

The Junior Retreat will be held on Thursday, 1/4/18. Location is TBA

The Middle School Retreats will be held at St. Therese Parish.  6th Grade  is 1/8/18. 7th Grade is 1/9/18, and 8th Grade is 1/12/18.

Retreats at SJCA aim to:

Provide students with the time to reflect on God and on life.

Allow students to interact with others in a Christian context.

Allow students the opportunity to make choices in an environment of guidance, discussion and prayer.

Provide a climate where students can review their personal faith.

Ensure a memorable experience of school community, where the communal experiences of liturgy, celebration and reflection are highlighted.

Supporting Parishes and Archdiocese

St. Joseph Catholic Academy is blessed to have 10 local parishes providing financial and spiritual support to our school system.  Priests take an active role in shaping our students to be active Christians through our weekly and all-school Masses.  SJCA is a member of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
