Physical Education Department
Mission Statement
The mission of the Physical Education Department is to utilize both the physical and cognitive aspects of activity. We strive to develop positive attitudes toward lifetime activities, sportsmanship, and personal fitness, as well as the psychomotor skills that make this discipline unique.
Goals
- To promote basic physical skills and the knowledge necessary to perform a variety of life-long physical activities;
- To promote sound mental health by developing physical, social, and emotional competencies;
- To provide positive attitudes toward physical fitness and healthy lifestyles;
- To provide knowledge of the benefits from involvement in physical activity; and
- To provide feedback to students using a variety of assessment methods.

Health
Physical Education I
Required For All Freshmen / One Term / .5 Credit
The students will learn and practice the skills, techniques, strategies, and rules needed to effectively participate in racquet, team, field, court sports, personalized fitness and weight training.
Physical Education II, III
1 Credit Required For All Sophomores and Juniors / One Term each year / .5 Credit each year
The students will learn and practice the skills, techniques, strategies, and rules needed to effectively participate in a variety of activities. The indoor activities in this course could include: badminton, pickle ball, team handball, volleyball, basketball, and strength training. The outdoor activities could include: flag football, soccer, ultimate Frisbee, softball, speedball, tennis, lacrosse, golf, bocce ball, croquet, and horseshoes.
Health
Required / One Term / .5 Credit
This course encourages students to accept personal responsibility for attaining and maintaining a healthy and independent lifestyle, by providing information that promotes a positive self-concept, by teaching them how to express their feelings, and by encouraging responsible decision-making. The course covers current health issues such as, personal health, mental and emotional health, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, nutrition, sexuality, accident, and emergency care.
