“I have the jars ready.”
Armed with one simple phrase, SJHS Senior Eric Wistrom envisioned change – literally and figuratively.
Eric discovered a relatively small percentage of alumni contributes to the Annual Fund Drive and admitted to his mom it would be years before he would be in a position to make a substantial donation to the Annual Fund Drive as a SJHS alumnus. She challenged him to think “outside the box,” and Wistrom imagined empty jars being filled by “The Power of Change.”
Wistrom kicked off his campaign by handing over his own loose change, which added up to $50, as his first contribution to the Annual Fund. “I started to think about all the changes St. Joe’s was making: the new Lancer Code of Conduct and the addition of a sixth grade. That’s when the idea hit me,” said Wistrom: “What if we encouraged people to donate their change?” Pennies may seem insignificant, but when combined with thousands of quarters, dimes, and nickels, they add up to a measurable monetary difference.
To those of you who contribute to the Annual Fund Drive–thank you for inspiring Eric to believe that even “change” makes an impact when it personifies the spirit of generosity and the commitment to St. Joseph High School’s future.
